Bloomberg: Apple is Redesigning the Magic Mouse with a New Charging Port Location
According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on a redesigned Magic Mouse, finally relocating the charging port from the bottom of the device. The redesign is expected to launch in 12 to 18 months.
Renowned insider Mark Gurman revealed in his Power On newsletter that Apple aims to create "something better suited to the modern era" and address "longstanding complaints," chief among them the inconvenient placement of the charging port on the underside of the Magic Mouse.
Bloomberg suggests the updated Magic Mouse might debut alongside the OLED MacBook Pro, anticipated for release in 2026–2027.
The first-generation Magic Mouse was launched in 2009, and its design has remained largely unchanged since. In 2024, Apple introduced a USB-C version of the Magic Mouse alongside the M4 iMac, replacing the previous Lightning connector.
Here’s my take: Let’s be honest—putting the charging port on the underside of the Magic Mouse was, to put it mildly, a bold decision. Sure, it looked sleek, but functionality? Not so much. It felt like Apple prioritized aesthetics over practicality, leaving users scratching their heads (and flipping their mice). Finally addressing this decades-old gripe is a move in the right direction. Better late than never, right?
