The Witcher 4 is in Active Development: Highlights from CD Projekt Red’s Q3 Report
CD Projekt Red has released their financial report for the third quarter of this year, revealing a significant decrease in revenue. The total revenue for the period amounted to $55.6 million, which is a 49% drop compared to the same period last year when it reached $108.2 million. Despite this decline, the company managed to secure a net profit of $19 million this quarter.
Experts attribute the dip in revenue to the lack of new releases from CD Projekt Red. The main income drivers this quarter were still the ever-popular Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Notably, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 30 million copies, and its expansion Phantom Liberty has surpassed 8 million copies sold.
Here are some additional points from the report worth noting:
-
The Witcher 4 is in active development, with 400 people working on the project. While a release date hasn't been set, it's expected no earlier than 2027.
-
64 employees are currently working on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
-
Following a company-wide reorganization, CD Projekt Red's development team has expanded from 639 to 650 people. Approximately $18 million was invested in the development of new games during the third quarter.
Although CD Projekt Red isn't ready to announce an exact release date for the next installment of The Witcher series, the active development is a promising sign for fans eagerly awaiting new releases from the Polish studio.
On a Personal Note
Despite the worldwide success and the immense love for The Witcher series, I have a confession to make—I’ve never played any of the games in this seria! I know, I know, it’s almost criminal. Maybe it's finally time to join Geralt on his adventures. Who's up for a live stream where we dive into the Witcher universe together? Let me know, and we can embark on this journey side by side!
